Current Initiatives

•  Hearing before the Census Data Advisory Committee: Rep. Matt Pierce, Chairperson of the Census Data Advisory Committee, will hold a legislative hearing on September 30th, at 1:30 pm, in Room 404 of the Statehouse, to discuss public financing of election campaigns. The Voter-Owned Indiana Clean Elections Coalition will host several experts to provide information to the legislators: Maine Senator Christine Savage (R); Arizona Senator Meg Burton Cahill (D); and Eric Ehst, Executive Director of Arizona Clean Elections Institute. Rob Werner and Dan Weeks with Americans for Campaign Reform will also attend.

Please join us and invite your legislators for one or more of several events:

  • On September 29th:
        Reception for the speakers from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the
        home of Russ Sipes.

  • On September 30th:
        Press conference planned for 10:00 am in Room 101 at the
        Indiana State House.

        Teach-in hosted by Democracy Matters at IUPUI at
        11:30 – 12:30 noon.

        Hearing with the Census Data Advisory Committee at
        1:30 pm in Room 404 of the Indiana State House.

    •  Sign the Voters Pledge:The Voters First Pledge is the result of a joint effort by Public Campaign Action Fund, Common Cause and Public Citizen to call on candidates running for the House and Senate to support ending Washington’s pay-to-play culture and back a system of public funding known as Clean or Fair Elections.
     
    •  Letter Writing Campaign: We are writing letters to our newspaper editors and encouraging everyone to do the same.
     
    •  Letters to the Indianapolis Star Editor: Recently, the Indianapolis Star printed an interesting article entitled Watchdogs: Limit Funding in Campaign for Governor about the Governor's campaign funding. Our members sent Letters to the Editor in response to an Editorial entitled Fair play in political giving requires across-board cap published in the Indianapolis Star.
